The United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has held on Monday, its first consultative meeting with the Southern Sudan Referendum Commission at the Mission's Headquarters in Khartoum.

The meeting was attended by the Commission's Chairman, Mohamed Ibrahim Khalil, and members of the Commission, while the United Nations Secretary-General's Special Representative in Sudan, Haile Menkerios, headed the UN team.
The meeting was aimed at exchanging preliminary views between the United Nations and the Commission as to UN's support to the Commission and to ensure the timely conduct of the referendum. Menkerios said that UNMIS will support the process within its mandate.
